Mac OS X Panther Broadband setup

This tutorial will show you how to set up a DHCP Broadband connection in OS X Panther (10.3). If you are using a Static-IP address connection, some of the settings may differ.

  • Click on the Apple menu and choose "System Preferences."

Click on the Apple menu and choose System Preferences

  • Click on the "Network" preference pane.

    Click on the Network pane

  • Now switch from the "Network Status" screen to the "Built-in Ethernet" screen by choosing "Built-in Ethernet"" in the pulldown menu labeled "Show."

The first thing you'll see will be the "TCP/IP" settings.

  • "Configure IPv4" should be set to "Using DHCP"
  • "IP address," "Subnet Mask," and "Router" will all be assigned dynamically using DHCP
  • "DNS Servers" should be assigned using DHCP, but can also be set manually using the Info we have sent you.
  • "Search Domains" should be assigned using DHCP but can be set manually to "lbdsl.com"

Use the TCP/IP settings recommended above

  • Click on the PPPoE tab. Depending on your package, we do not use PPPoE for service (Except for the lower residential packages). Make sure that the "Connect using PPPoE" box is unchecked.

Make sure thaat Connect using PPPoE is unchecked

  • Click on the Appletalk tab. Please click the "?" button in the lower-right-hand-corner of the "Network" window for information about Appletalk.

Appletalk works with Sonic.net but is not supported

  • Click on the "Proxies" tab next. We do not require any specific proxy settings, but you may want to have "Use Passive FTP (PASV)" checked.

Only leave Passive FTP checked.

  • Click on the "Ethernet" settings next. Keep this set to "Automatically" unless you want to configure the advanced ethernet settings. For more information on these settings, press the "?" button in the lower-right-hand-corner of the "Network" window.

Leave Ethernet set to Automatically or consult the help documentation

That's it, you're done! Just press "Apply Now" to save the changes you have made. For more information about Mac OS X please see the help documentation on Apple's Web Site.

If you have ordered ADSL Service, you must now configure your Router
